As I have told you at the beginning of this video, today, we’ll be touring a small neighborhood in the quiet town of New Caney – Porters Mill by D.R. Horton.

Before I proceed, a disclaimer – I am not affiliated with D.R. Horton. All information is provided as a courtesy and is deemed reliable at the time of this video.

D.R. Horton is a Fortune 500 home construction company headquartered in Arlington, Texas. They are known for delivering top-quality homes at affordable prices which include Porters Mill, a new development located along Gene Campbell road.

This 178 acre (more or less) community has approximately 750 home sites divided into six non-gated sections. As of the making of this video, it features four quick move-in homes and eight ready-to-build plans in various sizes, ranging from 1,415 sq ft to 2,561 sq ft single-family homes with three to four bedrooms. A basic home plan starts from $230 thousand. HOA fee is $700 annually while the tax rate indicated on their feature sheet is around 3.08%. But like I always say, it is better to check with the local tax authorities to get a more accurate tax information.

Now, let’s go and check one of their homes available for sale. This is a four-bedroom single-family home with an open concept living, dining, and kitchen area.

Don’t you want to move in right away? Wait until you see the amenities they have to offer.

Living in a rural area like New Caney does not mean you have to forego all the comforts of city living. Porters Mill’s community center may not be as grand but it will surely make your stay in the neighborhood more fun. Have a dip at the oversized beach-entry community pool with family and friends. Have toddlers in tow? No worries! Let them enjoy the shallow waters at the splash pad with a mushroom waterfall and tipping buckets. Don’t feel like swimming? No biggie! Take the kids to the nearby playground and let them glide down the slides, scale the mini-rock climbing feature, cross the mini-bridge or simply interact with other kids. Love hosting outdoor parties? The community center’s covered pavilion is perfect for that!

Still, craving for more outdoor activities? Lake Houston Wilderness Park is just 9 miles away. Revel in the serene heavily wooded environment of the park as you go hiking, trail running, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. If you happen to own a horse, there are horseback riding trails too! And if you love camping, it is the only park in the Houston Park and Recreation Development that allows overnight stays in cabins and campsites. Isn’t that exciting?

Porters Mill is under the jurisdiction of the highly recognized New Caney ISD known for equipping its students with knowledge and training that will let them “thrive in the reality of their future”. Elementary grade students can attend Crippen Elementary School along Cumberland Blvd, while 6th to 8th graders can go to White Oak Middle School just 7 miles southeast of the neighborhood. High schoolers, on the other hand, can attend Porter High School along Sandy Lane, just 5 miles south of the community.

Being conveniently located minutes from the Grand Parkway, I59, and I45 makes it easy to access grocery stores, malls, dining establishments, and entertainment areas.

The little comforts of life need not be sacrificed in choosing a budget-friendly home. Sure, you may not have that resort-like amenities in the neighborhood, but who needs that if you have nature all around you? I do understand that small-town living is not for everyone.
