How to File Homestead Exemption Texas | Harris County | Montgomery County

Hi all, it’s that time of the year again, filing for homestead exemption and if you have any questions on how to file for homestead then this video is perfect for you. Today, I will discuss how to file for homestead particularly in Harris County and Montgomery county districts.

Here you may apply for homestead on your principal residence. Homestead exemptions remove part of your home’s value from taxation so they lower your taxes. It removes part of your home value so it means your home values is lessened as far as taxes are concerned.

Effective January 1, 2022, new homeowners will be allowed to file and receive their homestead exemption in the same year as their date of purchase.
In other words, you can file your homestead exemption in January 2022, if you buy 2022, you can file a homestead exemption after the deed is recorded. Below are the links to the County appraisal districts where you can mail or file online (if available):

Montgomery county – https://mcad-tx.org/Forms

Beware of mailings (solicitations) that ask for a fee, this form is FREE to submit. Also make sure to check if you qualify for the following – Disabled, over 65, or other exemptions.
