Prestonwood Forest | Prestonwood Lights | Prestonwood Christmas Lights
Apart from Thanksgiving, Christmas time is another festivity that Americans look forward to. It’s not just because the Texas heat has gone down but because there is something about this season that brings out the child in everyone. This is something that is better seen than explained.
Today we’ll be skipping my usual real estate neighborhood tour. I won’t talk about home prices and sizes, but let’s all go back to our childhood days and see the beauty of Christmas in the eyes and heart of a child.
Let me show you around Prestonwood Forest, a subdivision that was developed in the 70s, located about 23-29 miles northwest of downtown Houston and witness its 43rd Nite of Lites – one of the longest-running Christmas decoration displays in the Greater Houston area.
This event started in 1977 when residents of Roebourne Lane decorated their homes using a street-wide theme which was replicated by the next street the following year. This delightful practice spread through the entire neighborhood like wildfire until it became one of the largest community-wide holiday lights display in Houston, with approximately 700 residents participating annually.
Nite of Lites begins every second of December, this year 2020, it started on the 12th and will last until the 27th. The neighbors will vie for the “Best House” award, the “Best All-Around” award, the “Best Door” award, the “Best Mailbox” award and the “Best Lamp Post” award in a holiday-spirited competition. There are also group/block awards like: the “Best Block”, the “Best Cul-de-Sac” and the “Best Block Runner-Up”.
So, what are you waiting for? Prepare your favorite hot beverage and snacks, have everyone jump into the car and head on to Prestonwood Forest to enjoy this captivating display of lights!
